Local solutions are needed too

Each region has specific circumstances that should be addressed

Solutions to reduce marine litter in any region should be adapted to its specific geography, climate, economics, and political situation. Local and regional solutions should also take into account the particular sources and consequences of plastic in a particular area.

Regional efforts can include regional action plans and monitoring programs.  Beach clean-ups can address local conditions. These more focused solutions can be implemented parallel to international cooperation and global actions to fight plastic pollution and marine litter.
